Pteryla Records: My Vision for Change.

Pteryla Records is my own record label that I founded back in 2021. I originally created it as just a platform for myself to use to release my own music, however after witnessing the pure greed and exploitation that so many labels thrive on and seeing some of my friends and fellow musicians face abuse and mistreatment within the industry, I knew I wanted to do something about it and be a part of the change, so it didn’t take long for me to feel inspired to turn it into something greater with more of a meaningful substance. I wish I could say it was only the big labels that were corrupt, but based on my own experience, this sadly isn’t the case.

The truth is, I didn’t want to just complain about how broken the system was, I wanted to take action to try to solve the problems. Too many artists are silenced, taken advantage of, abused or forced into deals that strip them of their art, their income, and sometimes even their passion. I wanted to create something different: a label where artists could thrive without fear, without manipulation, and without losing ownership of their own creations.

I built my label on three core values: freedom, fairness, and authenticity.

  • Freedom: Every artist deserves the space to create authentically, without being boxed in by trends or unrealistic expectations.

  • Fairness: Artists keep ownership of their music and are paid fairly for their work. It’s that simple.

  • Authenticity: We don’t chase overnight fame or trends. We seek real artists, the ones with a real story to tell, the ones with raw talent, the ones who want to make music that truly means something.

For me, this isn’t about manufacturing stars or chasing fame and fortune, I feel that this model is sorely outdated, and it often leaves artists burnt out, disillusioned, and discarded. Fame isn’t guaranteed, and it isn’t the point. At Pteryla Records, we want to build sustainable careers, safe creative spaces, and help artists to progress without being exploited or reshaped into something that they’re not.

Why ‘Pteryla’?

The word Pteryla comes from ornithology, and it refers to the feather tracts of a bird. It is the part of the bird where the feather grows. The reason I chose it as the name is pretty obvious if you know the symbolic values of it; ‘Pteryla’ symbolises freedom, creativity, and natural growth. Just as feathers give birds the power to soar, I want this label to give artists the tools and freedom to fly in their own creative direction. Pteryla Records is about nurturing the potential of our artists in order to fly, not clipping their wings.

I believe now more than ever that we need to say goodbye to greed and show more compassion, understanding and generosity.
Let the artistry flow freely and let the artist be free.

The Sub-Divisions of Pteryla Records

What started as just me and my songs has grown into a vision for a whole ecosystem designed to support other artists in every way possible. Over the next year and beyond, Pteryla Records will launch several key divisions, each with its own purpose:

  • Pteryla Online Music Academy: A dedicated platform offering comprehensive courses, mentorship, workshops, and resources to equip artists and musicians of any level with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the industry. Whether it’s songwriting, production/Sound designing, mixing and mastering, or the new model of music business essentials that we have created, the Academy is here to educate and empower. There will be both FREE and paid options within the academy.

  • Pteryla Sound Lab: An innovative space providing professional sample libraries, presets, and creative tools. This will give musicians and producers access to fresh sounds and textures that spark new levels of creativity.

  • Unwind with Pteryla Records: A branch dedicated to creating and curating relaxing, immersive music to inspire calm and support mental wellbeing or our listeners and our artists. Music has healing power, and I believe it’s just as important to create for the soul as it is to create for the stage.

  • Beyond the Label Podcast: A podcast hosted by myself, diving deeper into the world of music. From candid conversations with independent artists to practical advice on music production and industry survival, this will be a place to share knowledge, stories, and insights that often remain hidden. The podcast is expect to start in 2026.

These divisions are not about chasing commercial fads, they’re about laying down a foundation for something better. A space where music, education, creativity, and wellbeing intersect.

The Bigger Picture

What I hope, more than anything, is that in time artists see Pteryla Records as a genuine and viable alternative to the traditional label system. A safe place that doesn’t exploit, that isn’t full of greed, or squeezing creativity into marketable formulas. Instead we’re about partnership, transparency, and mutual respect.

I’m not trying to change the entire music industry overnight, but if nothing else, I want to carve out a new path for those who wish to walk it. If I can create even a small ripple that inspires fellow artists, fans, and other labels to rethink what the music industry can be, then Pteryla Records will have done its job and likewise for myself too.
At the end of the day, music is about connection, expression of emotions and the human experience, it’s about art, truth, and freedom and that’s what I want Pteryla Records to stand for; a home for the real artists, the ones brave enough to just be themselves.
